Mathias heeft in het Portugese Portimao een schitterende podiumplaats behaald voor Team Belgium in de DD2-klasse. In een uiterst spannende en fel bevochten Finale, met ontelbare positiewissels, kon Mathias zich naar voren werken en beslag leggen op de derde plaats. Een fantastisch resultaat voor de Europese kampioen DD2. Grote vreugde dus in het Team Belgium kamp en bij de rijder zelf: “Wat een afsluiter van een schitterend seizoen. De concurrentie was groot, de uitdaging des te groter. Ik wil mijn vriend en vaste mechanieker Kobe Liekens heel fel bedanken voor zijn harde werk en steun deze week. Ook Birger Bouvin leverde fantastisch werk voor de motor die al van bij de aanvang van de week niet super was. Hij deed er werkelijk alles aan om mij een beter werkende motor te bezorgen en dat was absoluut nodig om vooraan mee te kunnen strijden. Ook dank aan mijn sponsors, DF Aviation en Sandhills en alle vrienden thuis.”

European Rotax DD2 champ concludes Mach1 testing in preparation of the Rotax Grand Finals

After test runs on home soil in Mariembourg and Genk, Bouvin Power/TeamDF took their Mach1 DD2 chassis for a final test to the Kartodromo Algarve, near Portimao, Portugal, the track hosting this year’s Rotax Grand Finals.

Mathias, backed by Sandhills General Trading and DF Aviation, entered the German built Mach 1 Kart, in the Portuguese “Korridas Mojo Cup” as the team felt the best preparation was racing the Mach 1 on the Grand Finals’ track itself.
Several other DD2 frontrunners joined in the event with Swiss driver Kevin Ludi, Canada’s Nicolas Latifi and Bosnia’s Sandro Lukovic also showing up in a Mach 1 Kart. Lucas Orrock, Haralds Garkaklis and Martins Lapins elected to race their usual chassis in the event.

Mathias Detige seals the Rotax DD2 title in Salbris!

Going into the 4th and final round of the 2012 Rotax Max Euro Challenge at Salbris (France), Mathias Detige had a comfortable points lead in the DD2 standings.
MPT-Racing’s Miika Laiho from Finland was the only driver mathematically still capable of beating Mathias in the championship, but needed to win the Pre-Final and Final to do so.
During Wednesday and Thursday testing, Mathias and his mechanic Kobe encountered some technical problems and didn’t really find a good set-up for their MS Kart.
2012 Canadian DD2-champion, Ben Cooper (Birel) set the pace throughout the Free Practice sessions.
But by the time of Qualifying Practice on Friday afternoon Mathias was right on it and he put in a very strong lap that secured second place for the start of the Heats, behind… Miika Laiho!
